July 2009 — CurrentI created my LLC for the numerous educational technology consulting, app development, and media production gigs I complete. Over the course of my career, I've interviewed numerous luminaries including as John Wooden (UCLA Basketball Coach), Maria Cantwell (Junior Senator from Washington), Ron Sugar (CEO of Northrop Grumman), Sheri Schultz (Philanthropist and wife of Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz), and Henry Waxman (Representative from the 33rd Congressional District). I enjoy working behind the scenes with non-profit organizations supporting important causes with my media, design, and web creations.
Recent Projects include:
• Designed and implemented the “e-campus” (completely online experience) for West Hills College as part of a Federal Grant with Certification & Career Pathways Readiness Group, LLC. Revised systems and policies to transition from a face to face model to a hybrid and online model. Increased enrollment by 40%.
• Designed and implemented an educational program for medical doctors who want to convert their practice to a Direct Primary Care model for Freedom Healthworks. Integrated with various relationship management systems and lead generation using data. Planned launch in January 2019.
• Contributed to curriculum and certification program for global deployment under NDA.
• Supported the California State University Learning Platforms and Services Task Force by shepherding the RFP process, facilitating transparency and communication through webinars and other methods, and creating and maintaining https://csulps.com. Worked across 23 campuses with faculty, CIOs, Provosts, students, and other key stakeholders.

- Successfully upgraded, replaced, and/or built out infrastructure to support company growth including phone system, help desk, learning management system, donor tracking and relationship management system, marketing, and integrated student information system.
- Reduced technology costs by 40% per student while improving program quality
- Created and implemented instructor training program to grow and retain high quality staff while containing costs in a competitive technical job market. Reduced churn from 60% in first 5 months to 3% over subsequent 22 months.
- Improved student experience and data generation in existing courses in Javascript (React and Angular) and C# (.net frameworks). Built and deployed Python and Cybersecurity courses and added new part time model across all courses.
- Aligned products (classes), policies, and systems for scale by strategically adopting onprem and cloud solutions.
Director, Instructional Technology Support Services

Support and improve teaching and learning for 40k faculty and students through the strategic use of technology and media.
- Lead 5 teams: Instructional Design and Training including support; Application Development and Integration; Systems and Solutions; Software and Statistics (Research) Support Services; and Creative Services (video, web design, and graphics). Introduced Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for better transparency on diverse unit activities.
- Strategically focused on fewer, but more highly utilized systems and services for better data collection and reporting. Organically increased learning management system usage (“BeachBoard”) by 4% to 402 million interactions per year.
- Reduced ongoing services cost by 12% over 2 years through renegotiation of agreements and/or deprecation of software while still increasing quality and quantity of services to improve teaching and learning. Overall, various services have a 72-86% satisfaction rate among faculty and students. Working to better track and improve those measures.
- Successfully introduced new services that support campus initiatives including mobile friendly interfaces, learning glass studio, media support that is captioned and compliant, and 24/7 chat and phone support for students. Media tool was used more after the first month than the previous service was used after a year.
- Developed and ran a comprehensive, multi-year, strategic design program (AIDI) for over 30 departments involving over 120 faculty. Program allows departments to create and implement plans resulting in a 4.2% increase in courses available online across campus after just the first year. 90% of faculty participants would recommend the program to their colleagues.
- Pilot projects include the first chatbot, badging for curricular and co-curricular activities, electronic portfolio for students, and data integration between various institutional systems.
- Elected to CSU wide Director of Academic Technology Executive Board to facilitate communication and collaboration among 23 Cal State University campuses.
- Actively participate in campus wide initiatives: Highly Valued Degree Initiative Research and Measures task force, and Student Success task force; Faculty Committee on Technology; and Data Fellows program. Also participate in system wide initiatives CSU Online, Affordable Learning Solutions, and Quality Assurance program.
- Recipient of the Gold Award for Shared Services and Achieving Economies of Scale for our collaborative work across divisions and campuses.

Responsible for managing system-wide projects for the Academic Technologies Shared Services and Course Redesign with Technology teams.
- Managed system-wide requests for proposals (RFPs), webinars, presentations, campus communications, and vendor relationships across the 23 campuses of the California State University system.
- Created fresh, visually appealing strategic communications in support of over 150 faculty projects.
- Built, updated, and maintained the Learning Platforms and Services website to provide guidance on LMS information at a system wide level.
- Note: Served as a consultant to the CSU Chancellor's Office from August 2015 to June 2016.

Director of Emerging Technologies and Media Development

- Leadership: Manage 10 professional staff and 45 student employees (the Digital Corps). Created a nimble, high velocity, management structure to complete projects outside the traditional academic IT infrastructure. Responsible for mobile development campuswide.
- Innovation: Create IP across a range of technology. Developed 17 custom apps including an innovative assessment tool leading Blackboard Mobile to fly the dev and design team to San Francisco to find out more.
- Collaboration: Created Frog Baby Apps LLC working closely with University Marketing and Communications, Associate Provost for Research, and the Ball State Innovation Corporation to solve conflicting policies around innovation. Frog Baby Apps provides a distribution outlet for faculty and student created mobile apps, videos, and electronic publications with a streamlined administrative process.
- Content Creation: Consistently produce award winning stories (narrative shorts, documentaries, cinema quality distance learning content, etc.), innovative apps (iOS, Android and Windows), websites, electronic texts (iBooks and Adobe DPS), and physical interfaces and objects (kiosks, 3D printing and rapid prototyping) for on campus partners. In 2013, produced over 360 minutes of high quality video content for online learning including a cinema quality Film Noir MOOC.
- External Partnerships: Office researched and advised the Indiana State legislature on its transition to an electronic process, designed the current award winning IN.gov, and created the first Garfield iPhone game.
- Educator: Designed, and managed an online curriculum that supported over 600 students in its last semester. Patiently worked through the academic process to implement this innovative digital skills curriculum.
- Relationship Building: Built a reputation for the unit and Ball State locally, nationally, and internationally leading to extensive requests for thought leadership, innovation, and support from the private and government sectors.
- Student Success: Created a successful student employee training system that provides Digital Corps students with the skills, experience, and culture of a “coast style startup environment” before they graduate; all within the existing higher education structure and an experience otherwise unavailable in the local area.
- Entrepreneurship: Responsible for Frog Baby Apps LLC, a for-profit company 90% owned by Ball State University. Developed IP from an external contract and later to a private company. Mentor numerous fledging students companies including Rumr which was funded for $800k by Google and others.
- Awards: Office creative projects have won 4 Tellys, 3 Pixies, a W3 Award, Communicator Award, and a VEMA.

- Designed and implemented an interdisciplinary pre-professional training program for 25-35 students as part of a grant from the Lilly Endowment.
- Created a tripod model: depth of skill in an area, breadth of skill to facilitate collaboration, and soft skills to be an effective employee.
- Students had 100% employment at graduation working across the country for companies such as MTV, Sesame Street, Branding Brand, and the New Orleans Hornets in video, design, and development; or acceptance into graduate school. Alumni have sold pilots and developed apps such as Sephora and American Eagle’s official apps.
- Projects included numerous videos, a digital billboard system and the Ball State University Chirper–the first iPhone App at Ball State and one of the earliest in the Midwest.
